Brit mum Caroline Crouch’s smartwatch showed her pulse race by 50 percent as she was smothered with a pillow for five minutes by her husband and “died in extreme stress”.
Babis Anagnostopoulos, 33, has admitted killing Caroline, 20, on May 11, after being angered by her threat to divorce him and leave with their daughter Lydia.
A doctor at her inquest said that from her smartwatch it could be seen that her heart started racing after she had probably been asleep at 3:58am, according to local media site Amna.
The medic said: “At 4:05 am her pulse increases abruptly by 50 percent up from a state of sleep. I think at that time the person was in an extreme state of mental or physical stress.”
It was concluded that “the death process took place from 4:05 am to 4:11 am”.
Anagnostopoulos had told police that Caroline had struck him and caused him to lose his temper.
He has admitted that he staged a fake robbery when he realised his wife was dead claiming it was because he wanted to raise their daughter out of prison.
Anagnostopoulos claimed that he killed their dog, a seven-month-old husky puppy in an attempt to make the robbery sound more plausible, said reports in Greece.
In his testimony to police, Anagnostopoulos, reportedly said: “I thought of making one last attempt so that [Lydia] might at least grow up with her father.
“I thought of disappearing [Caroline’s] body, but it was impossible for me to do so. Just looking at her, I cried.
“The next thing I thought was to say that someone else did it. I would tell the police that robbers entered the house. I was in a panic. I did not know what to do. I thought that in order to look more plausible and to believe that rogue robbers had entered, I would have to hurt the dog.
“No one would have thought that I could harm a dog.”
Police have a diary belonging to Caroline with entries that implied an unhappy and violent marriage where she made attempts to leave him.
In July, 2020, she allegedly first said she would leave Anagnostopoulos when their baby was a month old.
Caroline was a black belt kickboxer and other diary comments include fights between the two including one where she “hit him and broke down a door.”
Anagnostopoulos admitted killing Caroline before appearing in court and faces life in prison if convicted of murder.
Only hours before his confession last Wednesday, Anagnostopoulos was seen hugging Caroline’s mother at a memorial service.
