At least five people have been stabbed and one victim has died in a horrific attack in Amsterdam.
Police confirmed that one person had died at the scene in the De Pijp area of the Dutch capital.
In a post on Twitter, Amsterdam police wrote: “One of the victims died on the spot, the four other victims were taken to hospital.”
A suspect has been arrested and there is a large emergency service presence at the scene.
The attacks are believed to have taken place at around 11.15pm local time.
Shortly afterwards it posted: “Five victims individually stabbed on or in the immediate vicinity of the Ferdinand Bolstraat. Police officers located the suspect and arrested him.”

The extent of the injuries the four surviving victims suffered is not confirmed, with some local media reporting that they were serious.
There is a huge police presence in the De Pijp area of Amsterdam, with members of the Special Interventions Service on site and helicopters deployed.
Dutch news outlet Algemeen Dagblad quotes a spokesperson for the police as not yet being able to give details about the circumstances of the incident.
“Helping the victims is now our number one priority,” they said.
It is not known what the motive was behind the attacks or if they were terror-related.
